In June 2022, the Spoilers Men’s Golf Club celebrated it’s 35th anniversary. This very special and significant occasion had 62 men come out and participate in our 35th golf fellowship.  On behalf of the Leadership Team I want to extend a sincere and appreciative “Thank You” to Bob Keene, SMGC 35th Anniversary Program Chair; Curtis C. Bolden, Golf Outing Event Coordinator and Jerry Womack, Golf Activities Coordinator.  These three Spoiler men made things happen while hosting the largest group of 62 golfers ever to attend our golf fellowship.  

 

Additionally, I want to thank Patrick Diamond, 35th Anniversary Club Historian, for putting together a fabulous brochure capturing the the history of the SMGC.  I’d also like to recognize Neil Harps for his outstanding work as a videographer producing an extraordinary memorial video remembering our fellow Spoilers who have passed on. And a very special thanks to Ena Bolden, videographer extraordinaire, who produced our Spoiler History video composed of interviews from the Original Spoilers documenting their perspective on the SMGC's history.

 

A special thanks to Linda Keene for creating and producing an original quilt art piece commemorating the Spoiler’s 35th anniversary. The piece “Brotherhood of Golf” was raffled off with all proceeds going to the Sharone Lee Garvin Fund.  Thanks Linda.

The SMGC will now move forward under the leadership and management by the Operational Leadership Committee.  Our bi laws afford  us the opportunity to form committees, this committee is the result of a unanimous vote from the Board to approve the formation of this committee.   Committee Members are; Curtis C. Bolden, Jerry Womack, Jason Keene, Marco Williams, Alex Chesley, Akano Pinkney.  I thank and congratulate members of the new committee.  

 

Finally, I invite all Spoilers to support these, our young Spoiler brothers.  The time is here for us all to “be about” the things we talk about when we speak of supporting our youth.

Sharone Lee Garvin Fund
 

On September 24, 2022 the Spoilers Men’s Golf Club presented a check in the amount of $7500.00 to the Moore-Myers Children’s Fund, Jacksonville, FL.  This gift was presented on behalf of the “Sharone Lee Garvin Fund”. Thanks to everyone who made a tax-deductible donation, those who bought a raffle ticket for ‘Brotherhood of Golf”, we were able to make our largest gift to date further making our 35^th anniversary more memorable.  Special thanks to; Jason Keene, Terry Harps, Patrick Diamond for leading our most successful fundraising campaign ever exceeding our $10,000.00.  Adding to the fund success was the work & commitment by so many people, none more than Michele Bolden who conducted a Fundraising campaign via Facebook and raised nearly $900.00. Michele has conducted a 2nd campaign and once again will add nearly $900.00 to the SLGF.
 
While the SLGF is relatively new as it was created 2004/2005.  It has achieved the success it has mainly because it bares the name of my God child and beloved daughter of James and Silvia Garvin, “Sharone Lee Garvin”.  I’d like to thank James for allowing us to memorialize Sharone by naming our non-profit 501C3 fund the Sharone Lee Garvin Fund.

The Spoilers Men’s Golf Club Presents:
“The Annual Brotherhood, Fellowship and Golf Event at Myrtle Beach, SC”

Pace of Play:

• Ready Golf. In the interest of speed of play please play ready golf, which allows the golfers within a group to take their swings when each member of the group is ready to play. If you reach your ball and are ready to hit, while other members of your group are not yet prepared, then go ahead and hit - even if you are not away.
• Please pick up your ball once you’ve reached double the strokes of the given hole (except Par 5’s), including penalty strokes. (6 on par 3, 8 on par 4’s and par 5’s)
• Please try to watch each other’s shots off the tee
• Lost Ball – If a ball is lost, hit out of bounds, or deemed unplayable (by the player) the player can move back on the line where the ball crossed into the obstacle (trees, water, OB, etc.), as far back as they wish and drop another ball (Penalty – one stroke).
• 2 min Max to find ALL lost balls – this is not a ball hunting expedition.
• Gimmes inside the rubber of putter (or opponent’s putter)
• Preferred Lies – Players may improve their lie by rolling the ball within one club head length of where it comes to rest with the following exceptions:
  • The ball is in a bunker.
  • The ball is inside an officially marked hazard.
• Lift clean & place - If play occurs during wet or rainy conditions a player can pick up their ball, clean it off and replace it in the same position before hitting the next shot.

 
 
Thursday:

Please be sure to be at the bag drop no less than 15 minutes prior to your assigned tee time. Please be sure to tip the folks loading the bags.
 
Thursday’s round at Heathland (first tee time 1:00PM) will be an open format with closest to the pin prizes available on Par 3’s
 
After Thursday’s round please stop by the room behind the pro shop to turn in one official scorecard per foursome, receive your grab bag and Friday pairing and tee time.
 
 
 
Friday:

• The Heritage Club
• First Tee Time – 9:00 AM
• Pairing and tee times will be shared following Thursday’s round
• Format: Alternate Points (Par - 1pt, Birdies - 2pt, Eagles - 3pt…) & closest to the pin on Par 3’s
• Happy Hour/Meet and Greet – Legends Club House 6:00 PM-7:00 PM

 
Saturday:

• Group Picture @ Legends Club House – 7:30 AM – Wear your shirt!
• Oyster Bay
• First Tee Time – 9:00 AM
• Pairings and tee times will be provided at the Happy Hour on Friday
• Format: Match Play (adjusted for handicap) & closest to the pin on Par 3’s (please play out the entire round regardless of match outcome for Skins prizes)
• Banquet – Legend’s Club House 7:00 PM
  • Sunday tee time and foursome sign up at banquet

 
Sunday:

• Parkland
• First Tee Time – 8:25 AM
• Pairing and tee times will be set via sign up at the Saturday banquet
• Open format

 
COVID – 19 Protocols:
We are asking everyone to consider adherence to the below list of Covid protocols. We want everyone to enjoy the golfing, fellowship and come away with positive memories. Therefore, we ask you to give serious consideration to the following:

1. If you can, please self-test 2-3 days prior to traveling to Myrtle Beach. While we know these tests are not 100% accurate, we hope a self-test will reduce the chances of anyone being infected attending our celebration and potentially infecting others unknowingly.
2. We highly encourage bringing and wearing a mask. Particularly when indoors around large groups when social distancing is not possible (Pro Shop, Club House, restaurants)
3. Get vaccinated and boosted if you haven’t done so already.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone this week and pray in the interim everyone will continue to be safe and healthy.  Keeping in mind that we will have individuals who will have some immune deficiencies, so please consider the above protocol.
